Language Exam Exemption Criteria

ENGLISH PREPARATORY PROGRAM EXEMPTION CRITERIA

Students can be exempt from the English Proficiency Exam by meeting one of the following three criteria:

1. Holding a Language Certificate: 

The accepted certificates and required scores are as follows:

  • TOEFL IBT – 75
  • TOEFL IBT Home Edition – 75
  • IELTS Academic – 6.0
  • PTE Academic – 55
  • LanguageCert – 70
  • CPE – C
  • CAE – B
  • Uzbekistan Foreign Language Proficiency Exam* – 50

*Only exams conducted by the "Agency for Assessment of Knowledge and Competences" under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovations of the Republic of Uzbekistan are accepted.
**The validity period of language certificates is 6 years.

2. Graduated with English as the Language of Instruction: 

  • Candidates who have graduated from a high school with a 100% English-language curriculum (either in Türkiye or abroad) and can provide a transcript as evidence will be exempt from the English Proficiency Exam for undergraduate applications.
  • Candidates who have graduated from a bachelor’s program with a 100% English-language curriculum (either in Türkiye or internationally) and can provide a transcript as evidence will be exempt from the English Proficiency Exam for master’s applications.
     

3. Transferring from an English-Medium Program: 

  • If the student is transferring from a department/program at another higher education institution with a 100% English-language curriculum to a department/program with a 100% English-language curriculum at our university, candidates must provide a transcript confirming that the department’s/program’s language of instruction is English and that the English preparatory year has been successfully completed.

*For doctoral program applications, regardless of the language of instruction, a valid foreign language certificate and score recognized by our university must be submitted.If the department’s/program’s language of instruction is Turkish, a Turkish language proficiency certificate at a minimum C1 level, accepted by our university, must be submitted. Otherwise, candidates are required to take the Turkish proficiency exam administered by our university.

**If you do not meet any of the exemption conditions listed above, you will be required to take the exemption exam administered by our university.

 

TURKISH PREPARATORY PROGRAM EXEMPTION CRITERIA

Students can be exempt from the Turkish Proficiency Exam by meeting one of the following four criteria:

1. Holding a Turkish Citizenship:

  • Candidate's holding only Turkish Citizenship,

  • Holding a Blue Card

2.Holding a Language Certificate: 

The accepted certificates and required scores are as follows:
•    For Undergraduate Departments: B2 level;
•    For Graduate Programs: C1 level TÖMER Certificate or a Yunus Emre Institute Language Proficiency Certificate 

Only TÖMER certificates issued by the higher education institutions listed below will be accepted.

•⁠  ⁠İstanbul:
o    Boğaziçi University
o    İstanbul University
o    İstanbul Technical University
o    Marmara University
o    Yıldız Technical University

•⁠  ⁠Ankara:
o    Hacettepe University
o    Middle East Technical Üniversitesi 
o    Gazi University
o    Ankara University

•⁠  ⁠Bursa:
o    Bursa Uludağ University
o    Bursa Technical University

3. Graduated with Turkish as the Language of Instruction: 

  • Candidates who can provide proof of graduation from a high school accredited by the Ministry of National Education, with 100% Turkish as the language of instruction (in Türkiye or abroad), are exempt from the Turkish Proficiency Exam for undergraduate applications.
  • Candidates who have graduated from a bachelor’s or master’s program with 100% Turkish-language instruction and can provide a transcript as evidence will be exempt from the Turkish Proficiency Exam for graduate applications.

4.Transferring from an Turkish-Medium Program:

  • If the student is transferring from a department/program at another higher education institution with a 100% Turkish-language curriculum to a department/program with a 100% Turkish-language curriculum at our university, candidates must provide a transcript confirming that the department’s/program’s language of instruction is Turkish and that the Turkish preparatory year has been successfully completed.

*If you do not meet any of the exemption conditions listed above, you will be required to take the exemption exam administered by our university.
